Strapping & Retention Equipment

The EP Strapper is Cranston’s wire strapper for pulp bales (wet, dry, and block). It is a portable machine, powered by pneumatic and electric systems. It can apply (2) wires to a typical bale in (12) seconds, including conveying time (300 bales per hour). Wire diameter ranges from 1.8mm /15awg – 2.3mm/13awg diameter and the optional retracting wire guides assure the wire ends up within +/-6mm / 1/4” from vertical. A tall opening version for wire strapping stacks or big bales is also available. This machine utilizes Cranston’s EZ thread coil cage (see below) and can often be configured to fit into early model conveyors for a more cost-effective upgrade. Early model hydraulic Strappers (series 900, 980, 986, 987) can often be converted to the new EP components.

Cranston’s Side Knotter is specifically designed for wet pulp bales. Wet pulp bales up to 1000mm/40” wide and between 600-1500mm/24-60“high. It can apply (2) wires to a typical bale in (15) seconds, including conveying time (240 bales per hour). Wire diameter is typically 2.18mm/13.5awg. The wire knot is located on side of bale reducing product contamination in the knotter and allows the machine to be inserted into either a separate Side Knotter conveyor or, providing a proper gap is present, between (2) standard conveyors. Side Knotter’s have integrated hydraulic power units and use Cranston’s EZ thread coil cages.

The RapStrap is Cranston’s paper strapping system for dry sheeted pulp bales. The machine is portable and powered by pneumatic and electric systems. It can apply (2) straps to a typical bale in (18) seconds, including conveying time (200 bales per hour). The paper strap is loaded directly onto the machine in 4876 Meter /16,000 ft jumbo coils via a convenient floor cart, avoiding operator lifting of the coils.

The RapPress is Cranston’s glue system for dry sheeted pulp bales. It is a portable machine, powered by pneumatic and electric systems. The adhesive applicators are mounted into the adjacent wrapper dispenser or folder and the presses are positioned in the strapping station’s conveyor where the wrapper is pressed. Production varies depending on environmental and material conditions. A typical cycle is 24 seconds, including conveying time (150 bales per hour). RapBond adhesive is available in barrels or totes.

A common Conveyor is used for the three interchangeable technologies listed above. Standard span lengths are 1245mm/49”, 1500mm/59”, or 2400mm/94.5”. Conveyor sections hinge open for access to the portable machines – without removal. Power open conveyors are standard on the longer spans.

Cranston’s Unitizer compresses and wire straps pulp units (wet, dry, and block). It includes top and side compression beams, hinging conveyors and is powered by pneumatic, electric, and hydraulic systems. It can apply (7) wires to a typical unit of (8) bales in (72) seconds, including conveying time (50 units per hour). Wire diameter is standard at 3.0mm/11awg. The unitizer can be equipped with optional front/rear alignment paddles. This machine utilizes Cranston’s EZ thread coil cage.

Cranston’s EZ thread coil cage meets current safety standards by enclosing the wire and implementation of a door switch. The cage bolts to the floor and is easily loaded by hand or fork truck. EZ threads are provided with steel pallets, payoff rings and can replace 1500mm/59” of safety barrier in some cases. Optional pipe stands are available for areas that do not receive wire coils on stands and caster kits are available for applications that require portability.

Waste & Recycling Bale Strapping Cranston Machinery will continue to support the existing installations, and Coastal Wire Company will be supplying new machines.

The 1000 series wire strapper is Cranston’s wire strapper for double ram balers. This machine is bolted to the face of the 2-ram baler’s nozzle and is powered by pneumatics and hydraulics provided by the baler. Typically, 2.68mm /12awg or 3.0mm/11awg diameter wire is used.

Cranston’s Handi-bander is a handheld tool designed to seal RapStrap paper strapping. The operator manually aligns the strapping in the seal press and then rotates the seal handle to make the joint. Hand tool reaches initial operating temperature in approximately 1 minute. An optional bolt-on strap tension module is available. The tool requires typical 120v power and the power cord includes GFI protection. Heaters are not sealed against water egress – tool is not intended for use in wet environments. Common uses are bundling broke for repulping or repairing wireless bales.
